Cheap Restaurants

Franchine
It's in a shopping centre but unlike a lot of Chinese/Thai/Vietnamese restaurants, everything is freshly made. Try their prawn spring rolls, Cantonese rice and samosas.

Le Tonkinois
This well-established Vietnamese favourite is a great place to go when you're hungry and penny pinching because the portions are generous and the prices easy. Get a set menu for the best value, or just go for the bo bun (they also have a tofu option for vegetarians).

Creperies de Cornouaille
It doesn't look great from the outside but this pancake place is so popular you'd better book in advance, especially in the evening. There is a large selection of savoury crepes as well as delicious sweet ones including the apple and calvados one.

Address: 9 rue Saint Marc | Telephone: |

Les Cocottes
This homely little creperie, all decked out in white and fuschia, does both sweet and savoury pancakes. Try the goat's cheese and honey one, and wash it down with cider. They also have a daily special; shepherd's pie or chicken in mustard cream sauce.

Address: 34 rue Jean Mace | Telephone: 02 5629 0204 |

Affordable Restaurants

Le Beouf sur le Quai
This place is strictly for carnivores, as they serve raw or lightly barbecued meat. There are no fish or vegetarian options and the raw meat is displayed in a chilled cabinet. Go for the 800 gram mixed grill mega-skewer with potatoes boiled in their skins.

Address: 2 Rue Commandant Malbert | Telephone: 02 9843 9134 |

Les P'tites Recettes
Very French: the tables are crammed together and everyone talks at the top of their voices while enjoying red lentil soup, noix saint jacques and homemade desserts. They are known for their top quality meat and fish, which changes daily as the menu is very small. Reserve ahead.

Address: 46 rue Emile Zola | Telephone: 02 9844 2754 |

Cote Docks
This American style restaurant serves everything, including gourmet burgers, beef tartare, fish, scallops and pizza. Service is relaxed and friendly, there's plenty of room outside on the terrace but the leather sofas indoors are also inviting.

Address: Port du Chateau, 155 Quai Eric Tabarly | Telephone: 02 9841 7827 |

Aux Tours du Chateau
This classic French restaurant has nice red banquette seating and a menu full of favourites; start with roast Camembert and bacon, treat yourself to a nice steak and finish with profiteroles and hot chocolate sauce. Service is good, and the view of the chateau couldn't be better.
