Brest Nightlife

Chilled

Le Gueule De Bois
The name means "The Hangover" which gives a good idea of life in this new bar. The friendly staff will guide you round the extensive beer list, including some unusual items from Belgium. Their lazy Sunday DJ sessions start at midday, which is a good time to enjoy a pint or ten.

Address: 1 rue des Halles | Telephone: none listed |

The Blind Piper
This massive, easy-going pub sprawls over three floors and has something for everyone. Shooters and beers are popular here, and they have billiards and huge screens for all the big sporting events. The evening starts off chilled and heats up later on.

Address: 95 Rue de Siam | Telephone: 02 9880 3539 |

Clubbing

Le Baroombar
Entrance to this unpretentious disco is free, although the obligatory cloakroom is 2 euros. The playlist (no DJ) is 80s/90s rock and Europop, and they have a "babby foot" table in the middle of the space. Look out for theme nights with freebies like their flip-flop party.

Address: 22 Rue de Lyon | Telephone: 02 9844 3901 |

La Javanaise
You go into a little bar done up 70s style purple, selling wine and smoked sausage, and then open the doors of the trompe-l'oeil cupboard and voila, it's a speakeasy (open til 2am weekends). The decor features old leather armchairs and posh new crumbling plaster behind the bar.

Address: 40, quai de la Douane | Telephone: 02 9880 6841 |

Metropolitan
This New York style bar serves good cocktails but it's the harbour view that makes it really special. Try a Balthazar or a Metropolitan (of course!) or even a "Soupe de Champagne". A great place to catch the sunset, or relax with one for the road.
