...the ballet of Don Quixote from the 13 to the 31 of December at the 18th century Grand Theatre, where a corps of 40 dancers will perform over 3 acts. These shows are very popular with the local audience, resulting in some performances having a waiting list of over 400 people!


The newly renovated Gare St Jean train station with its magnificent glass roof which will welcome the new high speed train from July 2nd, putting Bordeaux at 2 hours and 4 minutes from Paris.


Bistrot! From Baudelaire to Picasso at the Cité du Vin, where over 100 literary and artistic works will be exhibited to highlight the role played by cafés and bistros in society from 18th to the mid 20th century. www.laciteduvin.com

To the 3rd edition of the Ocean Climax Festival, from the 8 to 10 September, held in the former military barracks. Expect a 3-day, multicultural programme with an ocean and climate theme. More than 30 artists will perform on three stages and street artists also feature.


To the biannual Antiques Fair where over 200 dealers will set up shop on the Places des Quinconces, hoping to attract buyers and bargain hunters to their displays ranging from furniture to electric bikes, and crockery to quirky ornaments. 28 April to 8 May.


… to Le Marche des Capucins, the city's largest and most authentic food market, also known as the ‘belly of Bordeaux.' Home to quality butchers, fishmongers and fruit and vegetable sellers, with many stalls manned by the farmers themselves, pick up the ingredients for a picnic or have some oysters and white wine whilst watching the bustle.
