Fly to Europe this summer for some great festivals – six great reasons to go!

There’s more to festivals than Glastonbury. If Jay-Z isn’t your scene and high ticket prices and the British weather have got you down, there are lots of great festivals all over Europe with flights starting from just £31.99.

1 Sonar 19-21 June
If your image of festivals is a muddy field, think again. Sonar has
big-name DJs, alternative acts and art showcases, with Barcelona on
the doorstep. The line-up includes Frankie Knuckles, Goldfrapp, Ben
Watt and Soulwax.

2 Roskilde 3-6 July
Often compared to Glastonbury, this event, held 25 miles outside Copenhagen, features everyone from new talent to established
stars and legends you thought had died years ago. Radiohead, Slayer, My Bloody Valentine, Kate Nash, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Santogold, M.I.A. and Neil Young are among the big names this year.

3 Benicàssim 17-20 July
Sunshine and music are in plentiful supply at this festival on the Spanish
coast between Valencia and Barcelona. Don’t expect much sleep though; the heat means acts start late and go on until the small hours or beyond. Party late in 2008 with Gnarls Barkley, the Raconteurs, Mika, Hot Chip and curmudgeons
Morrissey and Leonard Cohen.

4 Sziget 12-18 August
Head to Budapest for this up-andcoming festival on an island in the Danube. Once a purely Hungarian affair, it’s bloomed into one of the largest festivals on the Continent. The Central European blend includes REM, Jamiroquai, Iron Maiden and a Roma tent dedicated to gypsy music.
