Ljubljana

Slovenia is wonderfully diverse for such a small country. It offers you so many opportunities it would take a number of visits to experience them all, as well as doing full justice to the amazing range of food and wine. Where else could you enjoy a morning swim in the warm waters of the Adriatic Sea, followed a couple of hours later by hiking in the breathtaking scenery of the Alps? Between the two is the capital, Ljubljana, with its charming narrow cobbled streets and vibrant atmosphere.

Ljubljana is a perfect combination of old world flair and modern entertainment. During the day, you should not miss a chance to stroll through the Old Town, along the Ljubljanica river or enjoy the lively open market. Ljubljana is blessed with a beautiful blend of architectural styles and will delight you with its lively café scene. After dinner in one of the many excellent restaurants, there are plenty of cultural events for every taste, while the more adventurous can dance the night away. BTC City, Ljubljana’s largest shopping and entertainment centre features over 400 shops, a micro brewery, a multiplex cinema, a sports hall and much more.

Bled, a mere 35 kilometres from the airport, is famous for its lake with an idyllic island just a relaxing boat ride away. A fascinating medieval clifftop castle towers above you. Bled is surrounded by stunning unspoilt countryside, where you may choose from a long list of outdoor activities and sports for the more and the less daring. From a gentle hike through hills and forests to white-water adventures, there is something for everyone. The centrepiece to your stay could be one of the most beautiful golf courses in Europe.

Portorož is a bustling seaside resort, which offers events and places to go for everybody. Relax on the beach when the weather is nice, or unwind in the luxury of a wellness centre (health spa), where thermal pools and the expert attention of beauty therapists are awaiting you. Portorož has waterfront bistros and restaurants, entertainment in lively cafes, discotheques, and the casino, along with many sports activities on both sea and land. Ancient Piran, with its Venetian architecture, is just a few minutes’ walk away. As a day trip from Portorož, you could visit the home of the famous Lipizzaner white horses or speed across the Adriatic to Venice by catamaran.

The Postojna Caves are the largest of a network of caves where you can enter the fascinating underworld of water, curtains of stalagmites and stalactites, vast halls and the unique ‘human fish’. Just around the corner, you may also visit the incredible Predjama Castle, built into the side of a 123-metre cliff.
