Market day comes twice a week in Bodrum. Ask for directions to the "pazar" and hone your haggling skills. On Tuesdays snag some bargain clothing, textiles or accessories. Friday is the day to buy deliciously fresh fruit and vegetables.

The ballet comes to town this August in the spectacular open-air setting of Bodrum Castle's amphitheatre. There will be seven shows from 8 August to 24 August with performances of Zorba the Greek, Blood Wedding and A Midsummer Night's Dream, among others (bodrumballetfestival.gov.tr).
