Cartagena Jazz Festival starts this month with a host of top names in the line-up. Just one of the groups is the Nottingham-based Tindersticks on 24 October.

Torrevieja's May Fair is a five-day celebration of Andalusian culture which includes flamenco dancing and music, horse shows and fantastic food. Situated in the harbour, the tented village sees tens of thousands of visitors. It takes place in the second week of May, with this year's dates still to be confirmed at time of going to press. April 2013
The Música Sin Fronteras (Music Without Frontiers) festival is taking place in the town of Rojales during April. One of the highlights is the concert by the Carlos Llidó Septet on 12 April (rojales.es).

January 2013
Works inspired in the traditional art of the Byzantine Empire are on display in Cartagena's archaeological museum until 8 January. These have been made by local artist Mariano Hernández using techniques from the 6th to the 18th centuries. Entry to the museum is free but do check the website for opening times (Calle Santiago Ramón y Cajal, museoarqueologicocartagena.es).
