Spend the day at La Lajita, which houses the island's only zoo with great sea lion, reptile and bird of prey shows. Visit the spectacular cactus gardens and browse through the gift shops. A fantastic day out. There's a free bus from the main tourist towns.

January 2013
On the evening of 5 January see the three kings on camels parading down the streets in major towns. Children receive sweets and present their gift lists to the kings.

October 2012
The 25th International Kite Festival takes place this November on the Dunes of Corralejo. It's a fantastic spectacle of kites from around the world.

July 2012
6-7 July is the El Cotillo music festival, the island's largest musical event, and it's right on the beach. Dance the night away overlooking the lagoon.
