(Piazza Federico II di Svevia, tel: 095 345 830) Ursino Castle was built in the 13th century and has survived many historical events, such as the revolution of the Sicilian Vespers and the earthquake of 1693. Today it hosts the municipal museum and is an amazing sight to see.

Castel di Judica is a tiny, ancient town a few kilometres east of Catania. The castle is home to many interesting stories and legends about the Jewish, Arab and Norman past of the island.

Take the train from Catania a few kilometres south to Lentini, a pretty little historical town. On 13 June there is an important public festival dedicated to St Anthony of Padua, and it also offers ancient churches, interesting buildings and a museum showing the history of the area from pre-history until the present day.

Mount Etna may be Europe's largest active volcano but during winter it's also home to an amazing ski resort for adults and kids. There are restaurants, cafés and shops scattered throughout the resort. To get there rent a car or contact a local travel agency.
