Go for what the locals call "le grand stroll", starting at the lighthouse on the headland, walking down past the golf course and the Russian Orthodox Church, along the promenade overlooking Le Grande Plage, across Place Ste-Eugenie and down past the Fisherman's Port, to the statue of the virgin looking out to sea to protect the fishermen.

When you're in town be sure to go to a local festival. Taking place in the Bibi area from 27 April to 1 May is the Fêtes de Bibi-Beaurivage. A family friendly affair, it features all kinds of music and dancing, indoor and outdoor sporting events, and plenty of great local food and drink.

Visit the impressive Musée de la Mer (museedelamer.com), where you can see all kinds of sealife from plankton to sharks. Tickets cost €13 for adults and €9.50 for children and students. Book online.
