The city wall - Tallinn's defence system was once among the most powerful in northern Europe. Some 2km of the wall along with 26 towers are still standing tall and some of it is open to the public. Try the Nunne Tower on the corner of Suur-Kloostri and Väike-Kloostri streets.

A must-see in the capital is the City Wall - during its 16th-century heyday one of the most formidable defence systems in northern Europe. Up to three-metres thick, it stretches for almost 2km and 20 of its original 46 towers remain.
