Basel Nightlife

Fischerstübe
A short walk from the convention centre, this brewery makes the local Ueli beer. A quiet beer garden awaits at the back for warm spring days, and it's worth staying for a meal if you feel a little peckish.

Noohn
A favourite of the after-work bankers whose offices flank this Asian-themed cavern, Noohn is somewhat hip, huge and sleek.

1. Stock
A short tram or train ride from central Basel, this venue in a converted factory complex is a highlight of the city's alternative music scene, with concerts a couple of nights a week.

Parterre
Folk, jazz and rock acts, as well as a monthly open-mic night, make this one of the best small venues in which to catch local acts.

Clubbing
Kuppel
No longer a teenie hangout, Kuppel, under its signature cupola, hosts house and techno DJs two to three nights a week.
Address: 14 Binningerstrasse | Telephone: 061 564 6600 |
Hirscheneck
The music at this Basel standby might too often be grungy hardcore, the politics somewhere between anarchist and communist, but this is Switzerland. The restrooms are squeaky clean, the service and food good, the party in the cellar venue more fun than raucous.
Address: 23 Lindenberg | Telephone: 061 692 7333 |
