This little café, tucked away below the Defterdar Mosque, specialises in novelty hot chocolates, teas and coffees, especially "kafés sti hóvoli" or Greek coffee made over hot sand the old-fashioned way. It also offers unrivalled people-watching and a nice early-spring suntrap.

WIth wicker seats and loungers scattered around an old house in front of the Theodorou Beach Hotel, this musical beach-bar plays mostly Greek sounds at a conversation-friendly level.

Hamam
This nightspot, popular with Greeks, used to be a Turkish bath, with many of the original features preserved. There's live acoustic music most nights at 9.30pm; otherwise the playlist encompasses everything from jazz and rock to traditional Greek music.

The only serious rival to Starlight on the local clubbing scene, featuring UK guest DJs and famous "glow parties" with non-toxic, UV-active bubbles.
