TRSS (Type Rating Sponsorship Scheme) - UK contracts only

If you hold a licence but have no multi crew, commercial experience on a medium/heavy jet, you could qualify for entry under our Type Rating Sponsorship Scheme.

Our basic requirements are as follows:

  • Air Transport Pilots Licence (or frozen ATPL) (UK or JAA)

  • Class 1 Medical
  • The ability to work and reside in the EU or Switzerland depending upon your base preference
  • Under 65 years of age (our current retirement age is 65 due to European airspace regulations)
  • The ability to provide full and accurate reference information covering the last 5 years
  • You will also require a minimum of 500 hours multi-crew commercial experience ranging from medium/heavy turboprop to medium/heavy jets or military background (heavy transport, fast jet or multi crew rotary).

Please note that if you hold a European National JAA licence, you must be prepared to exchange it for a UK JAA licence.

The Training

Our training provider, CTC, undertakes all of the type rating training on our behalf.

You will appreciate that we need to ensure that you are properly prepared to be a member of our professional team (our training standards are high), so we may require that you undergo an Advanced Handling Course to prepare you for the Type Rating Training. This course can only be completed after successful completion of our selection process and (if applicable) must be passed to the required standard before you can start the Type Rating Course under this scheme.

The Bond
All training is expensive and, as we are a low-cost airline, it is important that you provide us with a certain level of security against the significant costs that we will incur in your training, in the shape of a cash bond.

Our commitment to you is that you will have the chance to join the most exciting airline in Europe - with tremendous career prospects.

We will require a bond of £23,000, (representing a proportion of the total training costs we will incur), which must be made available to our training provider at the beginning of the training course. This bond will be transferred to easyJet when we employ you on completion of the training - normally about 2 months after your training start date.
On employment, we will return this bond to you, in monthly installments over 5 years.

For those of you that do not have access to personal funding, arrangements have been made to introduce you to a funding facility to obtain an unsecured loan for the bond money required.

TRSS Salaries
The Type Rating Sponsorship Scheme salary scales, (which will apply for the first 5 years of your employment), are detailed below:

RANK (attained within sponsored period)TRSS basic salary (5 yrs)

Please note that you will receive 90% of your basic salary during the first six months of your employment.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What if I have my own capital or perhaps wish to arrange my own loan to pay this bond?
No problem at all, we will still pay you the sponsored scale of salary for the first five years and also, a monthly repayment of that bond that you gave us initially at the rate of £5000 per year.

What qualifications do I need?
You must hold a JAA frozen/unfrozen ATPL and MCC and have a minimum total experience of 500 hours multi-crew commercial experience ranging from medium/heavy turboprop to medium/heavy jets or military background (heavy transport, fast jet or multi crew rotary).

How long does the training course take and what is included?
The Advanced Handling Course takes one week, the Type Rating Course about 2 months. The first 5-6 weeks are located at CTC Aviations Crew Training Centre at Nursling, near to Southampton. The remainder of the time will be at the location of the Full Flight Simulator, where accommodation is provided.

What happens if I don't pass the Advanced Handling Course and therefore don't get offered the type rating training?
You will be repaid your bond less an excess of £3000.

What happens if I don't pass the Advanced Handling Course and therefore don't get offered the type rating training?
You will be repaid your bond less an excess of £3000.

What happens if I don't pass the Type Rating Training course?
We will provide you with a limited amount of additional training, but if we genuinely don't think you can make the grade, then we will stop the training and we will repay you your bond less an excess of £5000.

What's included in the course, are there additional costs that I have to bear once I have lodged my bond?
It's an all-inclusive course - accommodation is provided for the first 5-6 weeks on a full board basis and for most of the remaining 3 weeks during Full Flight Simulator on a B and B basis. Obviously you may require some additional funds for your normal living costs.

What happens to me if I decide to leave during the training course?
If you fail to honour your obligations, you could potentially forfeit your bond.

What happens if I leave easyJet before the end of my bond period?
An employee who leaves during the bond period will have breached the bond contract and will therefore forfeit any remaining bond - in that case, we would cease to make monthly bond repayments to you and you would remain liable for the monthly repayments to the bank (if you have availed yourself of that facility). Additionally, easyJet may be entitled to seek repayment from you of the additional costs of training that it has borne in excess of the bonded amount.

Can I pay off the loan early? Are there any penalties?
If you use the funding arranged through this scheme, you can pay off the loan early without penalty. However, we will, of course, continue to repay your bond to you.

What happens if I pass the course but you don't employ me?
This would only occur if our plans for new hire pilots changed very unexpectedly. However, in this unlikely event, we would pay you back the bond amount in full.

Can I do my Type Rating anywhere?
No. If we are to keep our training costs under control, and to maintain the very high standard that we currently enjoy, then we require that the training course is supplied by our approved TRTO provider, CTC Aviation.
