Tenerife

Tenerife
If you’re looking for a long or short break to Tenerife, then book a cheap flight with easyJet. Tenerife is all about sunbathing, swimming, and eating good food. And what makes people come back, year after year, is the island’s unique wealth of variety. Tenerife is much more than its beaches. Here you can find riotous traditional festivals and liberating isolation. Here glistening snow and glowing lava are neighbours. For the visitor, there is something new to discover every day. Life on Tenerife has always revolved around the influence of the volcano, Teide. At 3,718 metres, it is the highest mountain in Spain, and its primordial force has both devastated villages and given life in the form of fertile soil. Here you will find Las Cañadas, one of the world’s largest craters, which was erupting as Columbus sailed past in 1492. You can go on walks of
varying degrees of difficulty through pines, lava fields, lunar landscapes and laurel forests. The mountain was sacred to the original inhabitants of the island (the Guanches). Anyone who spends any length of time on Tenerife sooner or later ends up on the small winding roads that lead up to the top of the mountain. Here you travel alternately above and in the clouds, fascinated by both the dramatic changes in weather and the magnificent views out over the Canarian archipelago. A few kilometres from the snow cover on Teide’s peak, the barren Wild West landscape was used for many spaghetti westerns and one of the most famous films of all time: The Planet of the Apes.

The arid side of the island to the south of Teide is now a fun-fair of enjoyment, while a verdant valley in the north offers a splash of rain, culture and genuine island life.

Few places can guarantee as many days of sunshine as the southern tip of Tenerife. The desert here is full of red hibiscus flowers and elegantly swaying palms. Ingenious irrigation and a vibrant beach life have turned Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas into holiday towns. Here, amongst the cacti and barren rocks, newly built luxury hotels sit alongside cave dwellings dug into cliff faces.
