It’s also a great place to visit all year round. In the summer you can laze by the waters edge at one of the cafés or restaurants and try a fresh seafood snack that has come straight from the waters flowing through the city.
In the winter you can go ice skating on the water and then cosy up in one of the warm, snug pubs.
Definite must sees in Stockholm are the Vasa Museum and the Royal Palace with the Chinese Pavilion.
You can take a short boat ride to the island of Djurgården where you will find warship Vasa in the Vasa museum. The Vasa was going to be the largest warship in the world, however after only minutes of sailing, it sank and many of the people onboard drowned.
After another short boat ride to Drottiningholm you will find the royal residency, Drottningholm Palace. Although the royal family still live at the Palace, it is open to the public, however the southern wing is kept private for the family.
In the grounds of the palace you will find the stunning Chinese pavilion. Built in 1753, this was originally a birthday present for Queen Lovisa Ulrika.
