Murcia

Murcia
If you’re looking for a long or short break to Murcia, then book a cheap flight with easyJet. The city of Murcia has an ancient history, dating back to the early ninth century. It has Arab foundations, during which time it was a major force to be reckoned with, with respect to trade and military achievements. There are not many visible reminders of Arab rule in Murcia, other than parts of the city wall and historic finds which are on display in the Archaeological Museum. The city as it appears today was formed under Christian rule, leaving visible marks everywhere. Two of the major roads through the city are a lively reminder of medieval guild activity, with many splendid buildings lining the streets.

Murcia

During the 18th century Murcia saw enormous growth, making the city spread far beyond it’s ancient city walls, with a large number of beautiful baroque churches being built in the new parts of the city. The Cathedral is the most prestigious religious building in the city – it was built over many centuries, creating different architectural styles, the most recognisable of which are the baroque front, the gothic Puerta de los Apóstoles, and renassiance influences in the Junterón chapel. This magnificent building is surrounded by further examples of 18th century architecture, such as the Episcopal Palace. A little further afield the streets are full of 19th century architecture of which the casino is the most spectacular example.
