Agadir

Agadir
If you’re looking for a long or short break to Agadir, then book a cheap flight with easyJet. Agadir can be found in South-Western Morocco, along the Atlantic Ocean. It’s Morocco’s most popular resort for tourists, and is very different from other cities in the country. Following an earthquake in 1961 the city had to be rebuilt entirely resulting in hugely different architecture, and a culture geared towards tourism. After the disaster the government designated the area a future tourist resort and turned the city into a purpose-built resort, resulting in the country’s best holiday destination. The city has a spectacular white sandy beach which stretches for miles along the deep blue Atlantic. With temperatures remaining in the 20s for most of the year there seems to be an endless supply of sunshine which makes it the perfect place to visit all year round.

Only 45 minutes away from the modern resort city of Agadir you will find Taroudant, nicknamed “Little Marrakech”. Go here to experience the real sights and sounds of Morocco including busy souks, fragrant gardens, and narrow winding streets. The mountain village of Tafraout is nearby where you will see the “Blue men” (Saharawi nomads, easily recognisable by their striking blue dress) arriving to trade their camels.

Many visitors to Agadir venture out to the Atlas Mountains which are the perfect destination for active and adventure holidays. The Rif Mountains of the north hide magnificent Roman ruins (Volubilis), a thermal spa (Moulay Yacoub) and the charming village of Chefchaouen where traditional Moroccon life continues almost undisturbed. The Mid Atlas and High Atlas both offer excellent trekking opportunities and even a limited ski season (check out Ifrane and Oukaimeden). The Anti Atlas is developing into a centre for eco-tourism with the Souss Massa National Park and the Argan Forest Biosphere Reserve. The Argan Forest is keeping the desert at bay which is proving to be vital to the survival of the Berber people in this area, giving them a livelihood producing wonderful orange-coloured oil, and also providing grazing for livestock and fuel. With the kind hospitality of the Berber people, and the breath taking views on offer, a trek around the mountains is an exciting adventure.
