Rimini

The seaside town of Rimini boasts 15 kms of splendid beaches on the Adriatic coast. Its modern marina gives you a fantastic view out to sea. As it is a working marina, the fishing boats go out every morning, creating a wonderfully colourful spectacle. Ultra-modern hotels line the harbour, giving an up-to-date impression of an old, charming town. Follow the Viale Principe Amedeo from the marina into the heart of the old town. Here you will find a warren of ancient narrow streets and charming squares lined with cafés, most of which are pedestrian zones.

Rimini has some excellent tourist features to offer, such as the Pigna Fountain on the Piazza Cavour, a beautiful medieval square. In the 13th century church of San Giovanni Evangelista some excellent frescoes remain, both from the 14th century and from 18th century restoration work. You cannot afford to miss the spectacular Tiberius Bridge, work on which began in 14 A.D and ended in 21A.D. This bridge still connects the city centre to the main roads to the North. Another fantastic Roman feature is the ancient Amphitheatre. Once this structure held 15,000 spectators when the gladiators fought for their lives.

If shopping is your thing, Rimini is the place to go. It has street markets almost every day of the week in various locations throughout the city. The main market is held every Wednesday and Saturday morning in the Piazza Cavour.
