Dusseldorf, the capital of the North Rhine-Westphalia state, has become a hip and trendy place to visit. Beneath the glitz and the glamour of this modern and vibrant city there are still plenty of traditional characteristics on offer.

Dusseldorf is located on the Rhine, one of the largest rivers in Europe, which is a real focal point for the city. Down by the river you will find the Rheinturm Tower, a sky scraping telecommunications tower, which even has its own revolving restaurant and superb cityscape views.

There are many riverside walking trails and cycle paths to enjoy, each with many beer gardens along the way.

The old town, known locally as Altstadt, is where Dusseldorf really comes alive. Whilst walking through the narrow lanes, and past the old churches and quaint breweries, you will find over 250 bars. It's the perfect place for you to experience the wonderful Dusseldorf nightlife.

The most popular cultural attractions in Dusseldorf are the many galleries and museums. Favourites include the Löbbecke Museum und Aquazoo - an aquarium attraction with information about many underwater creatures; Theatermuseum - the Dusseldorf Theatre Museum, which celebrates 400 years of German theatrical productions; Museum Kunst Palast - a popular art gallery where historic European paintings and glassworks are displayed in all their glory; and the Kunsthalle - the prestigious Dusseldorf Art Hall, where many exhibitions are held.

If shopping is your thing, then you are in for a treat! Dusseldorf has as exclusive shopping boulevard (Königsallee) which offers shopping malls and flagships stores. You will find the biggest names in fashion along the Königsallee including Armani, Kenzo, JOOP, Jil Sander, Uta Raasch, Onofri, Féraud and lots more.

Dusseldorf is also host to the world's largest fashion fair, where the most famous designers meet several times every year. This ensures that the latest fashion trends reach the shop windows in no time at all.

Airport information


The airport, which consists of a single passenger terminal, is located 8km (5 miles) north of Dusseldorf.

By car
The airport is located directly on the A 44 motorway and has its own exit signed ‘Flughafen’.

By train
Over 350 trains a day stop at the Dusseldorf Airport Rail Station, including regional, express, intercity and high-speed InterCity Express (ICE) trains which run between the airport and a number of destinations in Germany.

The SkyTrain connects the railway station and the terminal building.

Underground The S7 S-Bahn train connects the airport and Solingen-Ohligs.

By bus
The bus station is located in front of central Arrivals.
Bus 760 runs regularly to Ratingen Ost.
Bus 721 runs to Tannenhof via Dusseldorf central station.
Bus SB51 runs to Kaarst-Rathaus via Düsseldorf-Nordfriedhof.

By taxi
Taxis can be found in front of central Arrivals.
