But don’t forget about the beautiful beaches that line the bay Bournemouth sits on. Beach volleyball, kayaking, wind surfing, speed boating (ride the Shockwave speedboat for pure thrills!), kite surfing, or catamaran sailing – you name it, Bournemouth has it! And of course you can just chill out on the beach and catch some rays. Visit Alum Chine Beach if you’re looking for some real relaxation; here you can indulge in a wide range of holistic therapies.
The Dorset coastline has been classed as a World Heritage Site, because of its fossil sites, impressive landslides, and towering cliffs, and has earned the fond nickname of “Jurassic Coastline”.
Further afield
Not far from Bournemouth is the New Forest. Ponies and cattle roam freely to graze the ancient forest, and many wild deer live in the woods. The landscape is unique because it has remained virtually untouched since medieval times. It is a great area for walking and hiking.
Nearby lies the beautiful town of Christchurch, which can trace back its history to the Bronze Age. Today it has a charming town centre, with strong medieval influences, which is perfect for a leisurely day out.
