The area surrounding the city became one of the world’s most famous and prestigious wine-growing regions, and still is today. Fine wines such as Sauternes, Médoc, and St. Emilion are grown here in impressive vineyards. Most chateaux have wine tasting sessions and encourage visitors to their products.
Besides the Bordeaux vineyards, the wider region of Aquitaine has impressive prehistoric caves, the beautiful valleys of the Dordogne, fortified medieval villages, and a fantastic coast – good for windsurfing, kite surfing, sea fishing, and of course glorious seafood restaurants!
