Life as easyJet cabin crew

Meet the team!

Here's what the guys and gals have to say about life as easyJet cabin crew....

"easyJet is a rapidly expanding airline and it's a lot of fun to work for. There's a lot of hard work involved and you must be prepared to work very unsociable hours. However, it's also a very rewarding career. I enjoy working as cabin crew as every day is different and the job is a constant challenge. You get to meet people from all walks of life and work alongside a variety of warm, fun loving colleagues."

"Working for easyJet is hectic, fun, tiring and rewarding - all rolled into one! Any potential cabin crew member should have energy, enthusiasm and the desire to work as part of a team. To me, easyjet is just that - a team. We must all work together to provide the best possible service to our passengers, whilst making their travel and our working day a safe, happy and pleasant experience!"

Mark Hobson

"I've worked for easyJet for about 18 months and I am currently a SCCM in LPL. Before I joined easyjet I worked as a HR manager for a hotel chain, but when the threat of redundancy loomed, I decided to fulfil an ambition and work as cabin crew. I applied to virtually every airline flying and was interviewed by most of them, but right from the start there was something different about easyJet.

As I am married and have a mortgage and bills to pay, I needed a job with some stability and easyjet were one of the few airlines offering permanent (not seasonal) contracts. I am a very ambitious person and eager to advance as soon as possible. However when I asked about promotion chances with the other airlines I was told I would be considered after maybe 5/6 years. easyJet was the only airline that promoted on ability and not just on length of service. They were also the only airline with expansion plans so ambitious that they would consider new entrants for promotion after 12 months service. I worked hard and applied for promotion as soon as I was eligible, and was lucky enough to be promoted within 13 months.

The work can be long, hard, exceptionally challenging and demanding but ultimately I find it nearly always rewarding.

There can be times when you are reaching the end of a busy day and you get an ATC delay or a passenger starts complaining or shouting at you. Luckily these kind of delays are relatively few and far between.

If I were to offer any advice to a new cabin crew member it would be to work hard and play hard and enjoy your job."

"The training course was a lot of hard work, but the trainers were fantastic and helped to keep us motivated. There was also lots of practical work to keep you interested. All in all, the course was very informative and loads of fun!"

Gail Elvin

"I've worked for easyJet for 3 years. It's an excellent company to work for, very forward thinking and always prepared to try something new. I've seen rapid growth within the company during that time and it's really exciting to be part of that growth. easyjet Cabin Crew are employed on a permanent contract - not just seasonal work and I think this is a big plus for our staff. Life is never dull at easyJet, so if you want a challenge come and join us!"

"Being Cabin Crew for easyJet can make for many challenges. You need to be quick and efficient on your feet. Meeting many different passengers is very interesting and a great part of the job. What can be hard is the long hours and you are often exhausted after a 12+ hour day! But with a good crew you can get through the tough times. easyJet is a very friendly, supportive airline to work for."

Jo Smith

Jo is Cabin Crew at our London Luton base.

"I like working as part of a team and enjoy meeting new people. easyJet gives you the opportunity to become a Senior Crew Member after a year of flying or to develop interests within other areas of the airline. Flying is great fun and can be very challenging, especially when dealing with troublesome passengers. easyJet is a very friendly airline and crew at all levels are very supportive and contribute to making flights fun."

Colin Hardie

"My career with easyJet began in 1997, after leaving the Armed Forces.

I joined the army directly from school and served nine and a half enjoyable years in the forces until unfortunately being discharged on medical grounds.

It was then that I applied for the position of HGV Loader with Alpha Flight Services, who supply catering for easyJet. During the 18 months that I worked for Alpha I built up a rapport with members of easyJet cabin crew, and after speaking to many different crew members I realised that I could make it as a member of the cabin crew team.

So I applied and was fortunate enough to be called for interview. At this stage I really started to think that I didn't stand a chance as I didn't fit the stereotypical image of cabin crew, but I also believed that I had nothing to lose.

Throughout the assessment day I tried to be myself as much as possible. Then the time came for my one-to-one interview. Some of the questions I was asked made me sit and really think about my answers but to my relief I started to relax and somehow managed to get through smiling!

So it just goes to show it doesn't matter what type of background you have, never doubt yourself as you could be the one for the job, without even realising it, just like me!"
